Public Announcement Regarding May 8
Text version below:
Dear Members of the Yamhill Carlton Community:
The Yamhill Carlton School District will be teaching your children on May 8th. The Oregon Education Association has asked teachers across the state of Oregon to join a walkout on May 8th to demand more significant education funding for public schools. This action is causing many school districts to close for the day due to low staffing levels and little access to substitute teachers.
The professionals of our school district voted to keep our doors open for students so the children of YC can receive uninterrupted instruction. However, in support of this movement for needed school funding, staff will be wearing red in solidarity with teachers statewide. Any community member who wishes to show their support for improving school funding can do so by wearing red on Wednesday, May 8th. The Yamhill Carlton School Board will be feeding staff members breakfast on May 8th, in support of their choice to keep our doors open.
The Yamhill Carlton School District feels it is important that our schools receive sufficient funding to provide a world class education for our children. Oregon education has been in a budget crisis for decades and our students deserve better.
